Care & Placement

Tips for Amethyst Care

Amethysts should not be exposed to extreme sub-zero temperatures. If there is moisture in small cracks or cavities in the stone, it can freeze and expand in frosty conditions. This can create internal pressure, which in extreme cases can lead to fine cracks or even cause the stone to burst.

If amethyst is exposed to strong sunlight or strong UV radiation in general, it can fade. Therefore, do not expose the gemstones to these conditions for unnecessarily long periods. When not being worn, amethyst jewelry should always be stored in a jewelry box away from light. The gemstones should also be protected from heat.

Amethyst belongs to the quartz mineral group and has a Mohs hardness of 7. This means the stone is relatively resistant to scratches and well-suited for jewelry and decorative objects. Nevertheless, amethyst can be damaged by strong impacts or blows, which is why it should always be handled and stored carefully despite its hardness.

The easiest way to clean

Over time, dirt, skin oils, and dust can accumulate on amethysts, dulling their appearance. These stones are valued not only for their beauty but also for their energetic properties, making their cleansing a meaningful ritual to "recharge" their energy and preserve their essence.

One of the simplest methods is cleaning with water. Place your amethyst stone or jewelry in a bowl of clean, pure water, or gently rub the quartz surface to remove dirt and residue. The most effective method is cleaning with warm water and a soft toothbrush. Steam cleaning and ultrasonic cleaning should be avoided.

For energetic cleansing, amethyst can also be smudged. White sage is often used for this purpose, but other incenses such as Palo Santo, Copal, or purifying herbal blends are also suitable. Upon arrival of our stones, we smudged all pieces with South African Helichrysum (Impepho) to symbolically cleanse them of any potential foreign energies. Nevertheless, it is entirely up to each individual whether and how they wish to energetically cleanse their own stone again or charge it with a personal intention.
